On October 8th, I participated in the Autumn Grand Festival Martial Arts Demonstration Tournament at Shirotori Shrine in Higashikagawa City, Kagawa Prefecture, hosted by the NPO Tokushima Prefecture Kobudo Association.
I successfully performed the Ashū Yagyū Shinkage-ryū Heihō Kenshū (Ashū Yagyū Shinkage-ryū Martial Arts Sword Technique) and the Ashū Yagyū Shinkage-ryū Den’shō Mai (Ashū Yagyū Shinkage-ryū Traditional Dance), which were introduced to Tokushima during the Azuchi-Momoyama period and are still preserved today at the Kyūbukan Dojo, at Shirotori Shrine.
Shiratori Shrine is a renowned shrine dedicated to Prince Yamato Takeru.
Its annual Autumn Grand Festival features sacred rituals such as mikoshi processions and the dedication of the Kagawa Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property, the Tiger Lion Dance.
This year’s Autumn Grand Festival took place on a weekday evening, yet it became a fantastically lively festival.
